This comedy is clever in the fact that, not only is it very funny, but it is thought provoking too. Dustin Hoffman does a superb job of playing the typical guy, when it comes to how they see and treat women. However, as Dorothy, he starts to see how badly his sex can treat women when they lie and cheat on them and are condescending in their manner towards them As he confesses to 'Julie' at the end: I was a better man with you as a woman than I was as a man. The experience of being Dorothy, therefor, allowed him to ultimately become a better man, because he had seen and experienced things from both sides. That's why the women loved him, because they felt he could really relate to them and give women a voice - even if they did believe Dorothy was for real!
