this dvd is superb. my son Joseph loved it. Top Gear: Polar Special was an episode of the series Top Gear. It was an attempt by the BBC's Top Gear crew consisting of presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May to be the first to drive a motor vehicle to the Magnetic North Pole.

The idea was originally to coincide with the Polar Challenge race, which is an annual event, where competitors race to the 2006 location of the magnetic north pole by trekking and cross-country skiing.

As part of the challenge, the car would be racing against a dog sled, the traditional means of transport around the Arctic.

Top Gear presenters James May and Jeremy Clarkson would drive the car, and Richard Hammond travelled with the dog sled, accompanied by driver Matty McNair.

Jeremy Clarkson and James May ultimately were the first to reach the finish in their Hilux, thus winning the race and achieving their goal of being the first to do so in a car.

It was superb, and is well worth watching

this is one of my fav episodes top gear has done. some funny moments with the team and one of the most dangerous. loved it

Not Bad

You can't go wrong with top gear but as good & as fun as these are to watch they are not the versions you see on BBC 2,they are cut to bits.

still enjoyable but when you've watched them as full shows it kind of takes away the magic

Top gear, oh how I enjoy the TV show, they have become more then just a show about cars (which I do enjoy) they have turned into great mantertainment (haha get it?) Now a bit of background, I love watching Top Gear, wether it is repeats or new (yes I am the one that watches it on Dave) and it drives my other half up the wall when I do.

However this is a DVD set that even she enjoys.

US Special:

is it cheaper to buy a car, rather then rent one?

This is one that I enjoyed on television when it was first aired, I also got to watch it again thanks to Virgin Media 'On Demand' however, that one was a edited version, that cut out parts of the program, and to say some of the funniest parts that I remembered. I rented the DVD version, just to prove to myself that I wasn't going nuts, however the DVD version was the same!!

It was a small joke, that I missed, but it had me in stiches, oh well at least it is in my memory, although it doesn't really tell you how Jeremy got the shower fitted in his car, unless my DVD player skipped it?

Polar Special:

is it possible to drive to the north pole?

This one.. Is truely amazing, this is the 'directors cut' with bonus scenes that wasn't in the TV version.

Now I am not sure if this was 'faked' in anyway, it does seem funny that the camera's where set up around the polar caps, to capture the trucks journey, but either way it is a great watch, and it doesn't matter if it is fixed, the end result is sure to shock you.

I can't say anything else, without truely spoiling the DVD, if you haven't seen it and you like the challenges from the top gear guys, then this is one to watch! Your jaw will drop, especially with the Polar Special.

Clarkson; A Classic Moment

This DVD is superb. Top Gear: Polar Special was an episode of the series Top Gear. It was an attempt by the BBC's Top Gear crew consisting of presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May to be the first to drive a motor vehicle to the Magnetic North Pole.

A superb documentary following the antic's of the presenters. There was a particular moment in the documentary when they had an army survival professional expert teach them the effects of the cold and going under water in these extreme temperatures (the man with a pix-elated face). When he pushed Clarkson in the ice water it was a classic moment, very funny a must see!!!!.

Cool Blokey Fun

Fascinating arsing around by a group of friends with expensive toys and the resources of the BBC to muck about with.

Entertaining and funny and one of the last bastions of honest and original viewing.
