Cruise swoops in for Top Gun sequel

Tom Cruise is reportedly flying back to the big screen in a sequel to 1986 classic Top Gun. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer hinted last year (09) that he was working on a follow-up to a hugely popular "aviation" movie, sparking rumours the hit film would be revived for a new generation of cinema-goers. Movie bosses are in talks to bring Tom Cruise back for a sequel to his hit 1986 movie Top Gun. The original film's producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, has confirmed he's been approached with plans to resurrect Cruise's character, Lieutenant Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, for a follow-up to the naval aviation drama. Tom Cruise may be set to don the aviators and leather jacket in a sequel to the 1986 hit movie Top Gun, it has been reported. A script outline has already been penned, but the project is largely dependant on the 46-year-old actor agreeing to reprise his role as ace pilot Maverick, reports the Sun. Cruise to rock in movie musical?

Tom Cruise has been offered a supporting role in the movie adaptation of hit stage musical Rock Of Ages. Bosses at New Line Cinema are in negotiations with the Top Gun star about a bartender part in the much-anticipated film, which will reportedly star Taylor Swift. If he accepts the role, Cruise will get the chance to belt out a medley of 1980s rock anthems. Production on Rock of Ages is expected to kick off in January 2011, according to Access Hollywood.
