Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker--of AIRPLANE! and NAKED GUN fame--wrote and directed this genre-hopping slapstick juggernaut which lampoons World War II spy films and Elvis movies, making many other satirical stops along the way. East Germany is planning a cultural festival, and invites rock-and-roll singer Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer)...but only after Leonard Bernstein can't make it. The festival, however is a mere distraction so that the Germans can launch a secret attack on a submarine fleet without being detected. Nick soon finds himself involved with the French Resistance, encountering slapstick gags and film parodies every time he turns around.

Comedy was never really Douglas's forte, and his dimpled grimacing doesn't help this adaptation of John P Marquand's satire. Hayward, however, positively sizzles as the publisher who's trying to discredit newly-appointed diplomat Douglas. Despite the welcome presence of Jim Backus and Paul Stewart, the movie needs a dash more production gloss, and certainly colour, to really work.
Having spoofed one genre with considerable success, the Airplane team cast their net wider to send up a host of... read more on Time Out
Possibly the worst film I have ever seen.
I put it back in the envelope after wasting 15 minutes.
I hope this saves you wasting your time!
The most funny film ever made, full of sight gags watch this 4 times & you'll still be crying with laughter. I saw this film when I was about 14 and it still makes me laugh out loud 20 years later, packed full of famous people and some of the funniest jokes ever!
