Most helpful review
Don't read this!
By peter139 from cheshire , 13 Apr 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Please stop wasting time reading this and just order the best film made by one of the best filmmakers ever. Revel in the magical opening 7 minute single shot. A genuine first rarely risked since then and never pulled off as well. Marvel in the magical.
Oh just stop it and go rent the thing!- Was this review helpful to you?

(30)Disappointing Movie
By Abby88 (167 reviews) from Bognor Regis , 02 Dec 2012This film has been very overrated. The ending was alright but a lot of it was either pretty tame, predictable or far-fetched.- Was this review helpful to you?

Please Note!
By a customer , 12 Dec 2011Just posting this review to say that the audio and video are out of sync on the DVD version, so when actors talk their voice is not in sync with their lips. I bought the DVD from Amazon and I found this problem, then I rented the DVD from Love Film hoping that they might have a working version but no they haven't. I haven't been able to watch this film yet unfortunately because of this problem. Will have to try the blu-ray version.- Was this review helpful to you?

Incredible Cinematography and a decent film with it
By Bassman71 (619 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 09 Nov 2011Car bomb explodes on US/Mexican border, Police involved and suspect young Mexican, Mexican Drug Cop gets involved, corruption.
Excellent crime/thriller containing a very able cast with Orson Welles acting everyone off screen as the sleazy Captain Quinlan and good support from Janet Leigh, Joseph Calleia and a blacked-up Mexican Charlton Heston.
The main standout is the cinematography which is incredible and more so considering when it was shot and the technology available from big, sweeping shots to dark, shadowy & intimate close-ups.
Youve sort of guessed whats going to happen quite early on but was surprised how dark & gritty it was & Janet Leighs character has some brutal scenes to contend with later on.
Couple of nice cameos too from Zsa Zsa Gabor and Marlene Dietrich and a mention for Dennis Weaver who is brilliant as the hotel night manager.- Was this review helpful to you?

An interesting bit of film history
By heckmotor (5 reviews) from Banbury , 10 Nov 2010...but not hugely appealing as 21st Century entertainment. This is one for film enthusiasts, with its famously long and complex opening shot, iconic leading actors and direction, cameos from Zsa Zsa Gabor and Marlene Dietrich and the ironic twist at the very end. That said, the Vargas character is not convincing, some of the support acting pretty clunky - the motel night man absurdly OTT, and Vargas's wife naive to the point of disbelief. I wasn't really drawn into this film but watched it as an interesting period piece.- Was this review helpful to you?

Absurd plotline
By a customer from London , 20 Jan 2010Switch off after the '7 minute opening shot'. Heston is married to a woman who takes every opportunity to walk into dark alleys with a menacing stranger. Scooby Doo has more credible plotlines.- Was this review helpful to you?
