One of the best documentaries of the year!
By Alekseyev (6 reviews) from London , 04 Jul 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
Apparently this wonderful and moving film by a son about his mysterious adventurer of a father was ignored by distributors but eventually got released and was then rightly hailed by many top critics like Peter Bradshaw (Guardian) and Philip French (Observer). It is both funny and gut-wrenching by turns, exploring how a charming and tough outsider was caught between the Holocaust and the Soviet KGB and escaped, 'doing it his way' . The son goes back 50 years later with the dad and a film camera, and some amazing revelations ensue...- Was this review helpful to you?
