This is as good as it gets from the old horror films. Boris Karloff is at his best as Mord the Executioner. The usual suspects are in attendance with Basil Rathbone as Richard the third playing a particularly dastardly role. A younger Vincent Price is also there so this puts the icing on the cake. An excellent film- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)good old bw wins again.
By nobbyone (144 reviews) , 14 May 2013Good old black and white movies of dastardly deeds. Bit like another old movie killing all before to get to the top. This time king of England. I liked the acting and quality was good. Ian Hunter (I could not place the face at first) more or less stole the picture acting wise, as the king. Gave it a touch of humour.- Was this review helpful to you?

total rubbish
By rendlesham (20 reviews) , 12 May 2012this is without doubt one of the worst films ever made...it is nonsense...you can tell the actors did it to pay some scholl fees or to buy a little cottage in Wales...it would be a total mistake to rent it as a horror film...if you were having a 'creepy camp' ironic party it would look ok in the background...i beg you to ignore it- Was this review helpful to you?

Horrible History
By FrankIV (513 reviews) from Cirencester, England , 23 Oct 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
This is Hollywood Medievalism at its best. Rathbone, Karloff and Price rack up the villainy - although Rathbone is, as usual, much better than his material deserves. Otherwise, it's the usual mixed bag: terrific sets, crap dialogue including some limp dramatic irony (Clarence, you must hurry up - you've drunk enough for today), clunking exposition (watch astonished as Edward IV explains a genealogical chart to Wyatt), men in baggy tights and some great set pieces, such as the battles of Tewkesbury and Bosworth, beautifully shot and staged. The whole thing is presented on a well restored print which shows the glorious lighting and monochrome cinematography. Great, great fun.- Was this review helpful to you?
