  • What is this mess?

    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is a truly horrible film. Barry Levinson is a great filmmaker (Diner, Tin Men, Rain Man, Wag the Dog) so what happened here?

This film is a mess. It is never funny. Even Robin Williams seems to tied to the material to be able to improvise to good effect.

Joan Cusack is wasted, as is Robin Wright.

The idea is not a bad one, military general takes over toy factory, and could have been made to much better effect - think this concept combined with Small Soldiers?! There was potentially a good idea here, but this film isn't it.

Worst of all is the unnecessary, brutal and dull, good toy vs bad toy battle toward the end.

A thoroughly unpleasant film, I didn't watch it for 12 years and now I know why!

  • easy watching - silly yet brilliant

Beautiful, touching, moving and okay lets be honest very very silly. Still, this is a great movie full of laughs.

I loved it as a kid and recently brought it on DVD. Although not quite as magical as i remembered I still enjoyed it and think you would too.

  • A shame

Supposedly a comedy tagged as an anti-war fantasy.

With Robin Williams holding a special place in my heart when it comes to clean, good humour that formed a part of my childhood, I was bitterly disappointed with the poorly orchestrated mess that took away about an hour and a half of my life.

    What a disappointment.

  • Love Robin Williams- but not in this film!

A REAL dissapointment! Hardly can understand the storyline (as a kid or adult!) and the story seems pointless and stupid- I mean who would film a toy duck after a death for 3 mins? Sooooo borning. Don't waste your time and watch 'Flubber' instead (so much better (includs Robbin)

  • What are you guys on about?

This film is brilliant, I have always loved it.

Fair enough there are a few dodgy bits, especially casting a brit to play an American general and not get him to do an American accent.

Apart from that it is brilliant! I mean, having a 'barrel-o-laughs' in his coffin, or a toy duck crossing, or even the fake MTV music video that was sheer genius!

This film is brilliant; you'll just notice the only people that wrote reviews gave it a 1 when the average score for this is 5!

Just give it a watch and make up our own minds, but I can assure you will love this film?
