It should have been great
By a customer from London , 07 Aug 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
Pros:
1)There is some great CGI
2)When the Decepticons first begin to reveal themselves, it's pretty sinister and dead exciting.
3)Shia is good value and Megan is truly a fox.
4)There are some great comedy moments.
Cons:
1) It's far too long. Bay makes the mistake of trying to fit too many scenes in, when there isn't enough subject matter to go around. This means that even the action scenes drag and you want the film to end about half an hour before it does.
2)Although the robots look great, the fighting is often too fast to keep up with.
3)The little robot that does the hacking is really, really annoying.
4)The script, although funny in places, often feels like it was written by a 12 year old.
5)The plot is patchy, at best.
6)Why is John Turturro in this film?
7)It is very, very cheesy.
In summary, although I loved Transformers when I was a kid, this was a pretty big disappointment. It probably could have been saved by editing out about an hour of the detritus, or by cutting down on the cheese factor, but even though I gave it more than the benefit of the doubt (I was trying desperately hard to like it), I almost wish I hadn't been to see it.- Was this review helpful to you?

(861)This is how you do special effects!
By Fr4nch3sk4 (22 reviews) from Derby , 14 Feb 2013How knew that you could have a decent story with such great special effects and brilliant action scenes. Made watching Megan Fox bearable.- Was this review helpful to you?

childish script
By a customer , 05 Dec 2012It's ok, let down by a script for 10 yr olds and its childish humour. Other films can appeal to all ages. Good effects, Megan Fox is lovely, doubt I'll rent the sequels despite my love of sci-fi.- Was this review helpful to you?

Less Than Meets The Eye
By Roddenberry (31 reviews) from Bristol , 03 Nov 2012Well that's 2hrs 11 I'll not get back, I know the running times 2hrs 17, but the disc skipped 2 minutes thrice, I wish it could have jumped more. The 1986 movie is far more palatable as a piece of entertainment. Eighty minutes in, I was wishing for it to end, worst movie I've seen this year.
When it comes to the reason a lot of people watched this, the Autobots & Decepticons, I have to say I hate Bay's take on the robot's appearance and with his cut and flash style cinematography and the similar looks of all the Transformers in their robot state means you lose track of who you're actually watching, not that it seems to actually matter with the titular characters having no real personalities or uninteresting fight scenes.
And the actual Robots weren't the worst thing in this film, a stoned Chihuahua, really, in an action film? And the appalling hiding sequence outside the Witwicky house, the Section 7 stuff Men In Black (cheap) rip-offs. The tree climbing kid, the appalling scene with the weird cop, the unnecessarily gratuitous Megan Fox/Bumblebee hood scene and lets not forget the awful acting from Miss Fox and plus score sounded like rip-offs off various film, I swear I noticed bits similar to those in Con Air and the Rock, as well as others.
That said, I didn't hate everything, Shia Labeouf, the special forces team and the hackers (especially the aussie and Anthony Anderson), all put in decent performances, unfortunately not enough to transform this turkey.
Congratulations Michael Bay, you've made me yearn for the days of Rodimus Prime and he was awful.- Was this review helpful to you?
