Many of us suffered the frustration of watching this series chopped into 5 minute sections and shown daily on ITV in an attempt to make us kids watch Wacaday with that madman Timmy Mallet. Therefore this release is long overdue and while it's now just a dated kid's cartoon you can't deny that it was a superb idea at the time and certainly had children of the time enthralled. It was great watching the Autobots and Decepticons battling it out again and the episodes are really action packed with loads of gun battles and fights. It's clear why this was one of the most popular cartoons (along with Dungeons and Dragons) amongst our generation and I'm glad I finally had a chance to watch it again.
The most bizarre thing about this disc is that as it is volume 1 it doesn't have the first episode on it (unless my memory is playing tricks on me). It starts off with the transformers already on Earth and everyone in their alternate Earth vehicle forms. The first episode on the disc was a joy to watch as it was one that I recall only seeing 5 mins of here and there when it was shown on ITV back in the day with endless ad breaks and no regular time slots. Good to see how it all pans out. The animation may be dated, the voice talent minimal, but who can forget the sound as they transform? You get about 5 episodes on the disc, no extras but who cares? It's the cartoons you want to watch. Well worth a trip down memory lane.
