Many of us suffered the frustration of watching this series chopped into 5 minute sections and shown daily on ITV in an attempt to make us kids watch Wacaday with that madman Timmy Mallet. Therefore this release is long overdue and while it's now just a dated kid's cartoon you can't deny that it was a superb idea at the time and certainly had children of the time enthralled. It was great watching the Autobots and Decepticons battling it out again and the episodes are really action packed with loads of gun battles and fights. It's clear why this was one of the most popular cartoons (along with Dungeons and Dragons) amongst our generation and I'm glad I finally had a chance to watch it again.
The most bizarre thing about this disc is that as it is volume 1 it doesn't have the first episode on it (unless my memory is playing tricks on me). It starts off with the transformers already on Earth and everyone in their alternate Earth vehicle forms. The first episode on the disc was a joy to watch as it was one that I recall only seeing 5 mins of here and there when it was shown on ITV back in the day with endless ad breaks and no regular time slots. Good to see how it all pans out. The animation may be dated, the voice talent minimal, but who can forget the sound as they transform? You get about 5 episodes on the disc, no extras but who cares? It's the cartoons you want to watch. Well worth a trip down memory lane.
Really enjoyed this, keeps kids of all ages quiet. Takes you back to childhood. Worth a rent just for a bit of piece and quiet.

In America at the moment they are blaming programs like this for making children of the eighties passive about violence. What's next blaming the Hoff and Kit for the resurgence of mullets and chest hair.
I loved this when I was young and now my kids do also. The 3 parter at the beggining of Vol1 is by far the best of the stories. The mistakes in animation are obvious (even the kids saw 2 starscreams) but better than others of its era. Thank goodness I kept my old Transformer toys as the new ones are rubbish and don't even have the hologram.
First two episodes where entertaining in a nostaglic sense, but the final three episodes, in the form of a three-parter, was classic Transformers, with quality dialogue, definitive characterisation, implausible science & Optimus Prime, the whole 18 wheels of Autobot justice.
Nostalgic cartoon series. Hideously implausable but great fun with goodies & badies clearly marked for the benefit of the audience.
What can I say any Transformer dvd is a must now and this one isnt any different.
its as good as it was then brill even my kids love it
there are some good episodes on this, but don't be fooled into thinking that this 'Volume 1' starts at episode 1... for that you'll need to rent 'season 1'
a remembrance of youth, with a few extra bonuses - I'd completely forgotten the "Surfing Autobots" sequence!
