Artist/novelist/screenwriter John Paddy Carstairs had a long and busy career, much of it in the world of comedy. He directed 10 films between 1950 and 1955 and formed a successful partnership with Norman Wisdom. Here he adapted Farrell and Perry's hit stage play, managing to capture much of the eccentric charm of the piece. An extended Irish family have mislaid their fortune and take in lodgers to make ends meet. Wild chaos ensues. A first class cast headed by the ever-reliable Jimmy Edwards, here turning in another larger than life performance in two roles.

    average film

I watched this film mainly being a Chow Yun Fat fan. I like all his films heroic bloodshed films or not. This film is not one of his best but not one of his worst. If you are a CYF fan just because of his John Woo films then u will be disappointed although there are few simular scenes. The story is quiet flimsy and weird and not that great but there are worse ways to spend 1 and half hours . If you have to watch all of CYFs films then it is worth a watch otherwise maybe worth giving a miss and watching The Killer again.
