Mixed Bag Of A Movie.

Uneasy mix of genres, we get broad comedy, a hint of the supernatural, a touch of romance plus some martial arts, with some violent gunplay thrown in. (Some CGI effects are dodgy at best.) The central performances by Chow Yun Fat and Wu Chien Lien keep you watching, but overall this is a rather shallow film with a few nice moments. It must have been cold when they filmed this as you can see the actors' breath in every scene.- Was this review helpful to you?

(5)average film
By stevecole (14 reviews) from Swindon , 29 Sep 2007I watched this film mainly being a Chow Yun Fat fan. I like all his films heroic bloodshed films or not. This film is not one of his best but not one of his worst. If you are a CYF fan just because of his John Woo films then u will be disappointed although there are few simular scenes. The story is quiet flimsy and weird and not that great but there are worse ways to spend 1 and half hours . If you have to watch all of CYFs films then it is worth a watch otherwise maybe worth giving a miss and watching The Killer again.- Was this review helpful to you?

enjoyable
By a customer from Northern Ireland , 20 Sep 2006mix of comedy and kung fu (or something of that kind)with a bit of romance thrown in. Good laugh, and worth watching for that alone.- Was this review helpful to you?

Rather disappointing
By a customer from Birmingham, UK , 23 Aug 2006A bit of a let down if you are a fan of Chow Yun Fat - this film, although containing some action scenes such as the kidnapping at the beginning of the film, is generally slower paced than most of his films. Contains what I thought was rather disgusting a corporal punishment scene in the Shaolin temple. Some scenes of light relief, such as the monks enjoying western food and Coke Cola to the evident disgust of the master.- Was this review helpful to you?
