Treasure Island, a film to treasure

Wow! What can I say? Robert Newton's Long John Silver lights up the screen, over the top acting at it's best. Great to see some old faces from the past playing the crew, Sam Kidd, John Gregson, Patrick Troughton.
I loved the scene where Dr. Livesey fights Dr Who (The aforementioned Patrick Troughton) I heatilly recommend this film 'It's them as miss it who'll be the unlucky ones' as LJS might say.- Was this review helpful to you?

(15)Haha Jim Lad!
By MrK (10 reviews) from Newport , 13 Dec 2012I was 7 years old when I was taken to see this film in 1950. My favourite scene was when young Jim Hawkins is chased up the main mast by Israel who is after the treasure map. Jim pulls a pistol and shoots him dead. Exciting stuff in 1950. Just ordered it and hope it comes in time for my grandchildren to watch with me over Christmas. Like another reviewer, I have to revisit this film as it is part of my childhood memories.- Was this review helpful to you?

old-fashioned adventure
By mazzoc (20 reviews) from knowsley , 27 Jun 2011Well if you're looking for a black and white original with some old-fashioned pirates and an adventure for a young boy - this is the movie. I'd just been reading the book to my children, and they enjoyed the film more. Raw and real treasure island adventure.- Was this review helpful to you?

AAaahhh! Memories
By a customer , 10 May 2011I can remember enjoying this film when it was first released, and I felt I had to revisit my past.
Sure, it's hackneyed, and a bit dated, but it is surely well made, the acting is brilliant (especially Robert Newton's) and is remarkably true to the original storyline- Was this review helpful to you?

Real pirates!
By a customer from london , 23 Jun 2010My 2 sons, ages 8 and 6 loved this film. The didn't know what to expect-- the only pirates they'd seen were cartoons or in books. The 'real pirates' lit up the screen with their theatrical expressions. I had to explain the plot a bit-- but it was fun to watch together and they genuinely enjoyed seeing the drama unfold. A pleasure to watch for me-- retro joy!- Was this review helpful to you?
