Three masters. One masterpeice. Three giants of Hong Kong crime cinema - Tsui Hark (SEVEN SWORDS), Ringo Lam (CITY ON FIRE), and Johnnie To (ELECTION) - join forces to create Triangle. Longtime friends Bo-Sam, Fai, and Mokcontend with criminal hoods, a corrupt cop, and an unfaithful wife in their quest to unearth a treasure buried beneath the Hong Kong legislative building. The film's title refers to both the acclaimed trio of filmmakers and to the uneasy brotherhood of the film's three central characters. A lively action-thriller that brings together three of Hong Kong's greatest directors.

Triangle can be best described as an experiment in movie making. The film takes three very talented directors and asks them to construct a movie from a familiar yet potentially enjoyable central idea.
Tsui Hark kicks things off and sets the movie up in an enjoyable fashion, introducing the characters, sub-plot and themes. Then Ringo takes over and things take a turn for the worse. Not that he does anything particulaly wrong, it's just that his interpretation of events doesn't quite sit with what has gone before it. By the time To takes over the whole thing has become a bit of a tiresome mess which doesn't capitalise on the interesting premise we started with.
Hong Kong Cinema die-hards will need to see it but that doesn't make it a good film, in fact it barely passes as a completed picture. Just a lot of good ideas, bad ideas and characters who act against type.
An experiment in which three becomes quite the crowd.
