Evil Kiss-type rock star Sammi Curr (Tony Fields) returns from the dead when one of his biggest fans, Marc Price, plays his last unreleased album backwards. At first Price caters to every murderous whim the shock rocker's spirit demands, until he realises he's being duped by the Devil. A tedious and adolescent heavy metal comedy-horror it features head-bangers Ozzie Osbourne and Gene Simmons in cameo roles and is perfunctorily directed by Charles Martin Smith, the nerd in American Graffiti. There's the obligatory ludicrous rubber demons and a killer toilet. Yes, a killer toilet! Trick or treat? Mainly trick.

Entertaining But No Blood And Guts I'm Afraid

I first watched this movie over 10 years ago and thought it was great. Now a little older and wiser i thought this movie was pretty dated in terms of special effects and in all honesty, pretty slow and plodding.

It tells the story of a bullied rock star fan who brings his rock star idol back from the dead to get revenge on those who bullied him - not quite as bad as it sounds.

If you're looking for blood and guts then avoid this film, if you want some light entertainment with little shocks or scares then watch it! It doesn't really warrant an 18 certificate either.

    trick or treat

If you love 80's horror, a good sound track by fastway and a cameo by the god of rock, Ozzy Osbourne - then this film is for you!!

    Only the hairstyles are scary

It's a horror film about '80s heavy metal, so I naturally assumed this was going to be tongue-in-cheek. It's actually very earnest, which makes it unintentionally hilarious. The metal lead singer is a particular chuckle, putting in one of the most OTT performances I've seen in a while. However the idea- an EEEEVIL, er, demo tape isn't exactly spine-tingling.

Possibly worth an ironic glance if you were once in to 80s metal, and for the curio value of the cameos by Ozzy and Gene Simmons.

This is awful, has a strong kitsch value though. for heavy metal fans and horror completists only. The only scary thing about this, is how embarassing 80;s Heavy Metal was, and that people thought it was the height of cool. Oh the shame!!!!!!!

    Top Treat

Quite brilliant: pure cheesy eighties entertainment - Carrie / Christine meets Weird Science via (the hairstyles / fashion sense of) Wayne's World. Loses one star for the orange boom mike dropping into shot when the Mum's boyfriend shows up on Halloween dressed as Rambo otherwise plentiful entertainment is to be found here. And ignore the Radio Times review above - there is no 'killer toilet' (although there is a scene featuring a regular toilet - it doesn't kill anyone, though). Extra marks for the fantastic scene with glowing green mist making sweet lurve to a mulleted high school 'babe' before said mist morphs into a scary lizard creature totally unconnected with any other aspect of the plot! Nice.

Actually pretty good, and it helps that there was some proper acting being done by a few actors who carried on their career. Ozzy played a convincing evangelistic moral crusader, and the guy who played Sammy Curr was good too, with some pretty nifty dance moves for a heavy-metaler. Not a lot of blood or gore, but the performances and great nostalgic metal value made this quite enjoyable.
