From the same school of gay film-making as Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss, Jim Fall's unassuming romantic comedy pokes gentle fun at such stereotypes as the bitchy drag queen and the disco stud. Christian Campbell could hardly be more cherubic as the struggling musical composer whose chance to make it with a hunky stripper, J P Pitoc, is frustrated by a lack of privacy and a wealth of conflicting advice. Yet it's the much-maligned Tori Spelling's animated performance as a motor-mouthed off-Broadway wannabe that leaves the deepest impression. A huge hit on the festival circuit, this has date movie stamped all over it.
Slight but very likeable urban fairytale about the joys and limitations of wish-fulfilment fantasies. A mildly sappy... read more on Time Out
This is a fun, feel-good movie about two guys in New York trying to enjoy a first 'date', but finding almost everything conspiring to prevent them getting together. It's main fault, is just that: they don't get together. Whilst sometimes great fun, ultimately all the interruptions to even a first kiss become frustrating for the viewer as well. This wouldn't be so bad in a regular, straight relationship, because there are so many films out there that can compensate for that lack. A good gay relationship movie is so rare, though, that one with only one kiss in it to fulfill the expectations and anticipation of the viewer is something of a let-down. It's still a fun movie, but don't expect to see anything you couldn't watch happily with your mother.
Truly a marvellous enchanting film. A real feel good film with some superbly funny moments and believably acted. See It.
I thought this was a wonderfully made movie of a first time encounter. Was not sure at first but then i got hooked. The acting is both funny and sensative and the shots of NYC are warm and romantic. Watch this film with a box of popcorn and coke..if you are a soppy romantic you will enjoy it.
It's low budget. Its corny. Its camp as a row of tents. Unsubtle. No big stars. And its fantastic and even has a corny feel good ending.
Very funny and worth repeated viewing if only to see that body! Get a tub of ice cream, curl up on the sofa with a nice man and enjoy.
About, love on the first rung concerning complete opposites. Well cast and beautifully acted.

One of the greatest films that I have seen in a long time made me go out and buy it so that I could watch it again. Very funny and extremely camp fantastic story of Gabrielle a musical song writer pulling a Go Go Boy on the train and things just aren't going right for him.
If you love Camp you'll adore this.
i liked this film it has charm and is wity, fun to watch no graphic sex scenes, fine cinematography. just a good story set over one night out on city. the big city!
good perfomances and acting make this a must see if you like a film that delivers a human story of actraction and frustration.
Think that about sums it up. And lets face facts, how can you resist a film with Tori Spelling in it -laugh-
Although a little dated by todays standards this is a real 'feel-good' movie and should be enjoyed by most gay men and straight people too. Very americanised and certinly not a 'Queer as Folk' type movie. An adequate story based around a very cute actor who writes show tunes and bumps in to his dream boy...but where can they go to 'get aquainted'? Great acting by everyone and a film which should leave you with a smile on your face. Don't expect sex scenes but do expect a good few laughs and a film which you should leave you feeling you would like to see it again.
Like most low budget gay films, I dont hold out for something half decent, they do tend to be stereotypical clique films about boy meets boy, boy gets laid blah blah blah, and so I was pleasantly surprised when I watched Trick.
The story line is that of many other films, and if you see the trailer for Trick, then your apt to think it IS like so many other films, but dont let that fool you, I took a chance on watching it and I am glad I did.
Its a nice change to have a gay film that isnt just full of sex, this one happened to be witty at times, and kind of sad, halfway through it you fall in love with the two main characters, one is shy and preoccupied slightly with his attempt at being a musical genius, the other is a gorgeous gogo boy who is very pleasing on the eye.
And to finish it all off, the ending leaves you with a very warm feeling inside that just makes you want to smile.
So if you want a Friday night in and a half decent chick/queen flick you could do a lot worse than this.
i was not expecting much from this move, but it was actually quite entertaining........ good show from miss spelling.
Really you can't call that a film, ive seen better on the gay scene, in the imortal word's of 'chewin the fat' star Karen dunbar who is a personal friend of mine.
'I Smell SH!TE !!!'
P.S. this films greatest Trick was finding funding in the first place. it was pants! hee hee
