LOVEFiLM Review
-
By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM
Director Michael Winterbottom deserves credit for tackling Hardy's classic tale, it's just a shame he didn't bring a screenwriter along for the ride.

Trishna Love & Betrayal
By Resham (1 review) , 27 Sep 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
East meets West in this gloriously shot film. It explores the clash between two cultures and shows the dangerous when love becomes a dependency and is not allowed to blossom. Woven within the story are reminders of the weaknesses of our modern society.- Was this review helpful to you?

(20)Worth a watch but needed a better ending
By a customer , 11 Mar 2013Very watchable and Freida Pinto is great in this film. However I felt the climax to the film was too rushed, its like Michael Winterbottom forgot 3 quarters of the way through that the film is supposed to be based on Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Could have been a lot better but worth a watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

Leaves an Impression
By a customer , 08 Feb 2013Absolutely loved the film. This movie is well made and captures the story really well with the emotions that you can really connect with. Freda Pinto's acting is superb and very believeable. The scenes of Rajasthan really shows the true colours of this rich and cultural state of India. A film I would watch again!- Was this review helpful to you?

Something missing...
By muswellhillnick (12 reviews) from London , 23 Dec 2012Not much to commend this in my view. A promising opening doesn't really go on to deliver. Nor deal with Tess's (Trishna's) desire to escape her claustrophobic environment. Instead a rather curious tale emerges, that gives the impression of being improvised. Riz Ahmed is poor, Freida Pinto much more convincing. All in all though, a miss.- Was this review helpful to you?

Lovely but needs more subtitles.
By smag3 (18 reviews) from York , 31 Oct 2012I enjoyed the film but did find it a little confusing at times, well lots of times. This is probably due to the fact that a lot of the conversation is not conducted in English but there are very few subtitles. I think I literally lost the plot. Despite that i did enjoy it and luckily knew the original story so could fill in the gaps myself.- Was this review helpful to you?
