John Wayne at his best
By a customer from English , 09 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This has to be one of his best if not THE best performance of John Wayne's illustrious career, despite having to carry the dubious acting skills of the country singer (Glen Campbell).
John Wayne plays a cork popping deputy marshall hired by a child Maddy Ross played by Kim Darby to track down and arrest or kill the murderer of her father, what follows is a movie filled with laughter action and tears a real must see if you have not already.- Was this review helpful to you?

(28)Best True Grit
By a customer , 10 Sep 2012This original is by far the best, plus John Wayne got an oscar
for this film,Jeff Bridges did not, even the girl in the John Wayne film was better, and the famous line spoken by Wayne
was by far better than the other one, and it was not all done in the dark, could watch this version again, not the other one though.- Was this review helpful to you?

True Grit
By a customer , 12 Aug 2012Probably one of the greatest ever John Wayne movies. There isn't really anything to dislike about it and having also watched the Jeff Bridges version, I was relieved to see that the same script was followed so faithfully. The new one is brilliant, but the originals are always the best.- Was this review helpful to you?

here, the remake is 10 times better than the original.
By emperor10 (200 reviews) from newcastle upon tyne , 24 Jul 2012i watched the jeff bridges version (fantastic,by the way) before watching this. this looks like a made for tv special, its dull, boring, basically give it a miss. i have never understood the adulation john wayne got. he was a dull, 2D actor.- Was this review helpful to you?

Oscar Winning John Wayne Classic
By Chrisaljack (302 reviews) from Hellingly , 22 Jul 2012The recent re-make of True Grit is really good (unlike so many attempts to re-make classic movies!). It is a tribute to this original version that the re-make follows the original very closely and does not attempt to be 'better'! John Wayne probably was awarded the Best Actor Oscar more for his overall brilliance as a Western actor than for this performance on its own, but that does not detract from the fact that True Grit was a fitting vehicle for the award. If you have seen the re-make and not this original, do yourself a favour and watch it...- Was this review helpful to you?
