Until the arrival of GoldenEye, this comedy spy thriller from the Terminator team of Arnold Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron was the nearest thing in years to a great James Bond movie. Arnie plays the unshaken, unstirred secret agent, always saving the world in time to get home for dinner with his wife and kids, who are blissfully unaware of his dangerous job. Aside from the truly spectacular action, there's exceptional comedy support from Tom Arnold and a winning performance from Jamie Lee Curtis, who transforms from timid housewife to confident heroine. It may be wildly implausible and a trifle misogynistic, but, on a pure excitement level, Cameron's blockbuster is unbeatable entertainment.
Either a romantic comedy with violent sequences or a Bond-like thriller that ignores the rule that women shouldn't get in the way of action; either way, it long overstays its welcome, though the destruction is on an extremely lavish scale.
"...Cameron's latest, giddiest roller-coaster ride....TRUE LIES brings out the gentler, funnier side of [Schwarzenegger and Curtis]....Sensational..."
First of all I have to say that I absolutely love this movie. In its nature as a clear rip off of James Bond, the story follows top secret agent Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), in his bid foil a plot by international terrorists to detonate nuclear bombs in the US; while at the same time saving his marriage and relating to his teenage daughter.
Much like Indiana Jones being Spielbergs reaction to never directing a Bond film this appears to be Camerons. By reuniting with Schwarzenegger he clearly wanted to rekindle the success of the then two Terminator movies and also play on the lighter side of Schwarzeneggers character very much on show in the early 1990s in movies such as Twins and later Junior.
The whole movie is clearly played for laughs (in particular Tom Arnold and Bill Paxton) and to be fair the entire cast give a strong and amusing performance with special note to Art Malik who is heavily overlooked by Hollywood and now works on British TV.
In short this is a pleasant, light and enjoyable popcorn movie which the whole family could enjoy. Nothing is taken seriously, as it does well to pick apart and parody the spy genre which at the time was getting a little full of its self.
Who would have thought that ANYONE could make arnie look as good as james bond.Well in this case i would have to say better than.
This is some ride and you can just feel that everyone involved in this movie really enjoyed it.
its everything the best bond movies ever had but with better gags, bigger guns and explosive SFX as only Cameron can do them.
Lee Curtis is great and tom arnold has probably his best role to date.
Watch out for a very young bad slayer as Arnie's daughter.
great film fun.
An all time clasic film. Great action all the way through, along with a great humerous story line. One of Arnolds best films, next to T2 of course.

Not the sort of film I would go to watch, but I suppose it passed away an evening when there was nothing on the tv. The acting was wooden with very little action

Really enjoyed this film but preferred the original; ?La Totale? by Claude Zidi released in 1991 and staring Thierry Lhermitte. The French version was much less spectacular but so much more believable.
A light and action pact movie with touching, funny moments and excitement and action all at once. It hasn't lost its flavour!
Oh I love this film! I could watch this film over and over again! It is funny, exciting and happy!
The three who watched this spanned three decades - and we all loved it. It was funny, romantic, action-packed and had the odd poignant moment. A very good film which is worth watching.
The very best Schwarzenegger film ever. This film has got everything comedy, action great storyline. Arny was Arny with great performances from Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold and Art Malik even an appearence from Charlton Heston. A story about a spy who fronts himself as a computer salesman, even to his wife. Idon't know anyone who has seen this film and hasn't liked it.
One of those movies that has everything - great hero, heroine, villain and comic relief, lots of action, romance, pathos and an almost believeable plot! A role that allows Schwarzenegger to showcase his comic and dramatic talents as well as the action figure he is justly famous for... Jamie Lee Curtis is superb, showing just how easily a bored housewife can turn into a lady of the night... should have been a bigger hit..
Lots of action in this movie.I'v seen this one before, but still a great movie to watch.
