A true popcorn classic

First of all I have to say that I absolutely love this movie. In its nature as a clear rip off of James Bond, the story follows top secret agent Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), in his bid foil a plot by international terrorists to detonate nuclear bombs in the US; while at the same time saving his marriage and relating to his teenage daughter.
Much like Indiana Jones being Spielbergs reaction to never directing a Bond film this appears to be Camerons. By reuniting with Schwarzenegger he clearly wanted to rekindle the success of the then two Terminator movies and also play on the lighter side of Schwarzeneggers character very much on show in the early 1990s in movies such as Twins and later Junior.
The whole movie is clearly played for laughs (in particular Tom Arnold and Bill Paxton) and to be fair the entire cast give a strong and amusing performance with special note to Art Malik who is heavily overlooked by Hollywood and now works on British TV.
In short this is a pleasant, light and enjoyable popcorn movie which the whole family could enjoy. Nothing is taken seriously, as it does well to pick apart and parody the spy genre which at the time was getting a little full of its self.- Was this review helpful to you?

(40)not one of his best
By cheesekake (1283 reviews) from uk , 03 Nov 2012an ok film but defo not one of Arnold's best. Jamie Lee Curtis is still canny in this film tho she is in most of everything she does, hence this film isn't a complete failure.- Was this review helpful to you?

A great blockbuster
By gianino (618 reviews) from London , 11 Jul 2010Really cool & funny but I forgot it was so long. A bit too long for my point of view. Swarzy is a funny actor not a good one but he does his job pretty well in a funny way & Jamie Lee is great & the two together are perfect. Coolio!- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow Start, Then Got Going.
By filmsaremypassion (149 reviews) from Bexhill , 24 Mar 2010My mum suggested this film so I checked it out last night. At first, it was a little slow to start with and thought I wasn't going to enjoy it. But once it picked up, I was on the edge of my seat and laughing at the same time. Pefomaces from Arnold Schwarzengger and Jamie Lee Curtis are brilliant, their chemisty was sizzing every time they were together. The action scenes are from awesome to jaw-dropping, then again it is directed by James Cameron who does action with style. It's also funny and quite romantic, perfect for a movie like this. But it is a long film , at 2 hours and 15 minutes make sure you make the time to catch this excellent movie. Recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?
