A true popcorn classic

First of all I have to say that I absolutely love this movie. In its nature as a clear rip off of James Bond, the story follows top secret agent Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), in his bid foil a plot by international terrorists to detonate nuclear bombs in the US; while at the same time saving his marriage and relating to his teenage daughter.

Much like Indiana Jones being Spielberg’s reaction to never directing a Bond film this appears to be Cameron’s. By reuniting with Schwarzenegger he clearly wanted to rekindle the success of the then two Terminator movies and also play on the lighter side of Schwarzenegger’s character very much on show in the early 1990’s in movies such as Twins and later Junior.

The whole movie is clearly played for laughs (in particular Tom Arnold and Bill Paxton) and to be fair the entire cast give a strong and amusing performance with special note to Art Malik who is heavily overlooked by Hollywood and now works on British TV.

In short this is a pleasant, light and enjoyable popcorn movie which the whole family could enjoy. Nothing is taken seriously, as it does well to pick apart and parody the spy genre which at the time was getting a little full of its self.

Cameron and Arnie together again

Who would have thought that ANYONE could make arnie look as good as james bond.Well in this case i would have to say better than.

This is some ride and you can just feel that everyone involved in this movie really enjoyed it.

its everything the best bond movies ever had but with better gags,bigger guns and explosive SFX as only Cameron can do them.

Lee Curtis is great and tom arnold has probably his best role to date.

Watch out for a very young bad slayer as Arnie's daughter.

An all time clasic film. Great action all the way through, along with a great humerous story line. One of Arnolds best films, next to T2 of course.

James Cameron: Genius? Discuss.....

True Lies is without question the only Arnie films worth watching (Terminator films excepted). The reason? Jim Cameron. His visionary writing and directing is so strong throughout this film, it would have been harder to screw it up than do it right. Thankfully everyone present gives great performances, from Arnie, Tom Arnold as the comedy sidekick, Jamie Lee Curtis as the bored housewife drawn into the world of espionage, Charlton Heston as the grizzled Head of Omega Section, Art Malik as the crazed terrorist; and perhaps especially by Cameron regular Bill Paxton as the con artist who poses as a spy to get his leg over Arnie's wife.

The story is pacy and interesting, and the whole thing has so much energy and impact that you can't help getting into it. I defy anyone not to get blown away by the bridge sequence - just class!

Eliza Dushku in one of her first roles as Arnie's delinquent daughter gives us a glimpse of the hottie she turned into (didn't take her long to remove that mole, though) and Tia Carrera is perfect as the top line piece of a** that distracts Arnie along the way. Her amazing body is permanently clothed in slinky designer gear that really shows it off - ay caramba!

Five stars without a doubt: guns, girls, explosions, comedy and Arnie on top form = top night in. Nuff said
