Executive-produced by Tupac Shakur's mother — former Black Panther Afeni Shakur — and directed by MTV veteran Lauren Lazin, this powerful documentary charts the life and sudden death of the rap superstar. Told in Tupac's own words, it's a compelling story of ambition, violence, redemption and love. The film's strength lies in its wealth of archival material and Tupac's voice-over — culled from interviews — which is used to good effect. Unsurprisingly the soundtrack is packed with excellent tunes, but these are sometimes used a little too literally to illustrate key points. I was sceptical about this until I heard production was overlooked by his mum.
Having seen it I can say that I would watch it again.
Some documentaries look at too many interviews but this was very well constructed and kept you entertained and informed; interviews with different people are mainly set aside as 'features' which also included some never seen before footage.
Tupac had a very high intellect which not only comes out in his songs but also when he narrates this piece both through an on-going interview and through various out-takes.
I would recommend you rent this if you know anything about the 'real' Tupac Amaru Shakur, the man fighting for Black America and are intrigued into what made this man; though not fully explained, it goes a long way to describe him.
well made documentary i thnk 2pacs mum had alot of input on this dvd...but this well worth a watch
