Executive-produced by Tupac Shakur's mother — former Black Panther Afeni Shakur — and directed by MTV veteran Lauren Lazin, this powerful documentary charts the life and sudden death of the rap superstar. Told in Tupac's own words, it's a compelling story of ambition, violence, redemption and love. The film's strength lies in its wealth of archival material and Tupac's voice-over — culled from interviews — which is used to good effect. Unsurprisingly the soundtrack is packed with excellent tunes, but these are sometimes used a little too literally to illustrate key points. Tupac himself comes across as a charismatic yet deeply conflicted man, and it's this constant battle between the public Thug Life version of himself and the private, intelligent, politically savvy man that gives the film depth. It's a little overlong and highly subjective, but as a reverential portrait of an influential figure in American popular culture, it's hard to beat.
An apt title, given that this biography is ostensibly narrated by Tupac Shakur himself from beyond the grave. Using... read more on Time Out
I was sceptical about this until I heard production was overlooked by his mum.
Having seen it I can say that I would watch it again.
Some documentaries look at too many interviews but this was very well constructed and kept you entertained and informed; interviews with different people are mainly set aside as 'features' which also included some never seen before footage.
Tupac had a very high intellect which not only comes out in his songs but also when he narrates this piece both through an on-going interview and through various out-takes.
I would recommend you rent this if you know anything about the 'real' Tupac Amaru Shakur, the man fighting for Black America and are intrigued into what made this man; though not fully explained, it goes a long way to describe him.
I'm usualy quite skeptical when renting some of these documentaries as they mostly have everything to do anything else other than the message they are trying to convey....having watched this however I was plesently surprised...overall it is a very well put together doc with some exclusive interviews, pictures and a great insight into Tupac's background and shortlived career, I found his public speeches engaging and the tributes by former label mates quite touching especialy the tribute from Jada Pinkett where she talks of their close friendship... For anyone who was not only a fan but wanted some further insight into this incredibly gifted indiviual who will always live on in our memories please rent this documentary...I recall someone in the movie, I think it was Treach refer to him as our Elvis...I think he'll always be our hero as he was a legend......
THIS IS A BRILLIANT MOVIE IF YOU LIKE THIS MAN. IVE BEEN A FAN FOR YEARS BUT I LEARNT SO MUCH ABOUT HIM FROM WATCHING THIS. THERES FOOTAGE THAT CAPTURES HIM FROM A YOUNG AGE - AT PERFORMING ART SCHOOL, ITS SUCH AN INSIGHT INTO WHO HE REALLY WAS, AND YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHY HE BELIEVED IN WHAT HE DID. IF YOU LIKE HIS MUSIC THIS IS A FILM YOU REALLY HAVE TO WATCH.
An interesting and thought provoking insight into Tupac's life. This documentary completely changed my view of him. Through his music he expresses himself as a hardened street thug/underdog. This film shows another side to him, the artistic multi-talented loving personality that he was. Always assumed even though he made great music, he would be a prick in real life. This film shows otherwise, he is an inspiration to all who can relate to him and his life. The legacy of tupac lives on...

well made documentary i thnk 2pacs mum had alot of input on this dvd...but this well worth a watch
I absolutely loved this documentary on the life of Tupac Amaru shakur, as told by himself. It's as if he's been resurrected from the grave, to do this. Hence the aptly titled - 'Resurrection'.
All involved in the making of this movie, have excelled in making a classic, that should be shown to everyone who has ever suffered persecution or persecuted others, in one form or another...
Tupac tells life as it is for real...from the beginning to the end of his short life, he was a forthright indidvidual who knew exactly how to convey his message. That of 'THUG LIFE' this is a term you or I would interpret differently, but in fact his meaning is that of people less fortunate (like himself) who have been brought up from the depths of poverty in total despair.
His belief, by living the 'THUG LIFE' code, is that it can help people live in a better society, free of prejudice, hatred, violence etc..
A must see for everyone, not just avid fans of the rap and movie star. It is a tragedy that his life is now over, but hopefully with the distribution of this movie Tupac Amaru Shakur's legacy will live on 4EVER.
God bless Tupac Amaru Shakur R.I.P xx

There are a lot of films about Tupac but this one is by far the best.It shows that if you look behind all the negative press Tupac got that he was not only a brillant song writer but a very intelligent caring complex person. This film will keep you hooked from start to finish as you wonder how it is possible for one person to go through so much in such a short life-time.A special mention must go to the fact that the whole film is narrated by Tupac's own voice and is simply stunning.THE BEST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN!!
this is one to watch highly recommended
Its a real good DVD, well worth renting
I know a few names in the world of hip-hop but don't listen to any tracks unless they're on the radio, but after reading a review of the book Tupac - Resurrection I took on a chance on this DVD.
Brilliant viewing. Tupac had depth and courage, was poetically gifted.
A great documentary, if you've never heard of him or know little like me, watch it and be informed.
