Turkish Delight - this certainly is! 4StarMust.
By Pete Shuttleworth from Hemel Hempstead, Herts , 19 Nov 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
You can't call this film a movie. It is a 100% a film. Based on the best selling autobiography 'Turkish Fruit' we witness an unconventional Dutch love story, set in the 1970s, unfold. The setting, rather dated now, makes it all the more stand out as a timeless piece. I admit I was shocked by the opening, though realised what the director was up to, and I admit I became keen to see what panned out for the two central characters - the scupltor and his muse. This film is definately worth watching. It is! There are several plot twists which keep you thinking and I suggest you look beyond the plastic (the stiff sub-titles, the late 70s fashion, the injured bird metaphor) and get to see the real core of this film. A true and universal love story from a blokes point of view. You know... the guy from BladeRunner can act, and in the buff, after all. It's no wonder Turkish Fruit sells well in Holland!- Was this review helpful to you?

(34)Essential 70s European Cinema
By Cowbiscuit (17 reviews) , 06 Mar 2013An extreme portrait of young love. Highly charged with eroticism, violence and turbulent emotion. Captures the spirit of intense young love and takes it to the edge throughout. Bursting with life, freshness and humour but with darkness and challenging moments. The flame of their romance burns hot, bright and is all consuming. The music score has an elegiac feel, reminding that the autumn is sure to follow spring. A kind of distant, older cousin to Betty Blue. Destructive relationship, full of passion. Very 1970s feel, but in a good way. If that kind of film appeals to you then don't miss it, this is a classic of it's kind.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Burgos (2 reviews) from London , 15 Aug 2010A great 70s film to wallow in. Two excellent leads in a major European movie I consider myself very fortunate to have stumbled upon.- Was this review helpful to you?

Shock! Verhoeven does nudity??
By Oldbloke (308 reviews) from Sidmouth , 08 Jun 2010A promiscuous artist of dubious talent falls for an young middle class girl. Marrying on impulse, they enjoy a brief and intense relationship before social and family pressure forces them apart. Devastated, he fantasises acts of revenge and beds an assortment of women that fail to satisfy him. When the lovers are reunited, it is immediately clear that she is not well. Part love story, part tragedy, part sex comedy, it is dated and uneven, but still manages to shock and charm in equal measure.- Was this review helpful to you?

Turkish Delight
By Ave (63 reviews) from Rickmansworth , 06 Apr 2010A rather avantguard Dutch film, the characters are rather wild, story unusual, and dark. But interesting film with very good acting, posing interesting questions.- Was this review helpful to you?
