If you like Twin Peaks you might like this
By a customer from Coventry , 15 Apr 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Warning, do not see this film before you have watched the whole Twin Peaks series; the movie will be totally incomprehensible and it includes massive spoilers for the series. If you have seen and enjoyed the series, this is essential viewing, although it is not at all what I expected, being much darker and without the humour of the series. Very surreal, but also visually very interesting. Will definitely not be to everyone?s tastes.- Was this review helpful to you?

(50)Not as good as the series.
By Kowalski (38 reviews) , 06 Apr 2013This is a good film but it will always be in the shadow of the series. It's notable that neither Sherilyn Fenn nor Lara Flynn Boyle - the two biggest names in the cast post-series - appear in the film, though Boyle's character does. With a few tweaks to the script the film could have divorced itself from the series and become an independent story, and it might have been better served if it had. That said, it is a good film and very typically Lynch, so if you like his other stuff, you will certainly like this. Don't watch it, though, before you have seen Twin Peaks in its entirety as you will spoil both series and film. References to the series aside, I think the Lynch film it most resembles is Lost Highway.- Was this review helpful to you?

DO NOT WATCH unless you have seen the original series.
By Calfraz (2 reviews) , 12 Dec 2012First of all, I was a little unsure about this film when I first realised that there was a prequel to the series. I love the ambiguity of Lynch's work, which is a trait that all of his fans respect. To be honest, I didn't see the point of it, as the show was so brilliant. However, being a die hard fan of Lynch's steller career and of the series, I gave it a watch. It's not that I wasn't expecting to be disappointed, but rather unsure as to why exactly he had decided to go into further detail around Laura Palmer. If anything, you leave the film asking more questions, which is what I really respected about this film. Sheryl Lee's unbelieveable performance as the central character is what fuels the film, however; it's fantastic to see her in the limelight, rather than playing a supporting role(s) in the series. She truly shines in this. It's also nice to see more of Ray Wise in his role of Leland Palmer, as he, along with Audrey (who has, sadly, been omitted from the picture, due to Fenn's shooting clashes) was my favourite character from the show. There are also cameos from other 'Twin Peaks' characters, such as Shelley, Leo, Norma, Gordon (who is hilarious, this is Lynch's character), James, Annie and, of course, Cooper. There is also a very, very, very brief cameo from David Bowie. Be wary, as there are several changes from the series: firstly, Donna has been replaced by Moira Kelley as the performer (whom by friend prefered so much more than Lara Flynn Boyle); secondly, and most surprisingly, Lynch has made this film so much darker than the series - there is a lot of sexual and violence nature that is only refered to in the series. However, this does not spoil the film, as Lynch does these scenes so excellently. As mentioned in the title, DO NOT WATCH unless you have seen the series and are a fan of the series and of Lynch. If you watch this before the series, it will spoil Laura's murderer and other elements in the series; also, you will be completely lost in the narrative, as Lynch does not reveal what he did in the series, rather the viewer has to be familiar with the series in order to fully enjoy this film. It is worth a watch if you are an avid Lyncian or 'Twin Peaks' fan, otherwise, if you haven't seen the series or are not a fan of Lynch's films, then I cannot express how far away you should stay from this film. If you want to watch a light, understandable film, then look elsewhere. If you want to learn more about Laura Palmer and see more of Lynch's ridiculous craft as one of the last true film artists, then this is the film that you should watch. No exceptions.- Was this review helpful to you?

Watch The Twin Peaks Series - Forget This Movie
By a customer , 18 Sep 2012I can't believe the reviews on here for this movie!
I watched theTwin Peaks series and loved it. This movie didn't do anything for me, completely unnecessary rubbish that didn't have any of the qualities I enjoyed from the series.
If you want a David Lynch movie just get Mulholland Drive.- Was this review helpful to you?

Its David Lynch, easy to watch film? forget it.
By prior81 (16 reviews) , 14 Aug 2012This really needs to be watched as a companion to the TV series as by itself its virtually incomprehensible. Ive seen the series and it made perfect sense, the person I was watching it with hadn't and they were well and truly lost. I can understand why people don't like it.
However Its obscure, disturbing and disorientating. Dont try and understand it and enjoy the master class in making a film with so much tension you'll feel like tearing your finger nails out.
Horrifying and brilliant.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good film, disastrous release.
By MrT0ad (1 review) , 05 Aug 2012I have to give this release only two stars not for the film itself, which doesn't have the same quality as the series and is 'weak' for David Lynch's standard (apart from being rather unaccessible/indecipherable to whoever didn't follow the series) but is still very watchable, but because of the shoddy release.
For reasons I can't possibly fathom the UK release contains English audio in DD 2. 0 where the French release has English audio in DD 5. 1
More over the audio track is 'glitched' with artifacts in at least three scenes of the film and the downsampling makes the dialogue really difficult to follow at times, to the point that I had to enable subtitles.
And to add insult to injury the UK release has no extras. None.
Funny that the 'Universal 100th Anniversary' intro prior to the film is encoded in DTS MA 5. 1.- Was this review helpful to you?
