Tasty!

In one sense, you could see this film as a representation of the famous quote 'All that is required for evil to triumph is that good people do nothing'. A debauched occultist nobleman summons the Devil to his hilltop castle, while in the village below crazed Puritans burn any lovely young girl not locked indoors after sundown. All the while, a good hearted but frightened choirmaster stands by, unwilling to stop the mob madness or give the aristo a holy walloping.

On the other hand, you could see it as the prime slice of Hammer gore and gorgeousness it is. Lush colours, lush young ladies, lip smacking villans and Peter Cushing, as magesterial as ever. Fangsome fun!
