LOVEFiLM Review Two Lovers

  • 5 stars out of 5

    By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM

Joaquin Phoenix finds himself stuck in a love triangle with Gwyneth Paltrow and Vinessa Shaw in this romantic drama set in New York. We give it a 5 star stamp of approval...

Goodness! This is possibly the most depressing film I have ever seen and it's supposed to be a story about a man torn between two lovers! Sombre and extremely boring...I would say avoid this film like the plague.

This is a review that isn't a review as there was not much substance to this film. I can usually find a good angle by appreciating a particular actor, or the style in which a film was shot but I really felt that this was just not worth watching - sorry!

Bittersweet is the best way to describe this heart wrenching film. A love film for those who have experience unrequited love. For those who have received love and not really reciprocated it. A slightly disappointing ending with Paltrow's character but otherwise a very solid film

Most romantic movies are about a young woman torn between her love for two men. However, this was an unusual film in that it was a young man in this position. It was slow but fairly powerful and very interesting. The two main actors Paltrow and Phoenix took the roles seriously with Paltrow playing the selfish 'other woman' whose main concern in life was her own happiness and Phoenix being very convincing as a deep, thoughtful, sympathetic man. We all know he will forever pine for the selfish one and what might have been, all the while knowing that the girl he ends up with was his second choice and always will be although she is by far the better person.

Very good. It is a bit slow but not boring. Not all movies have to be fast paced to be interesting.

I wouldn’t recommend this film....nothing more to say other than I was so bored all I could think about was what Joaquin Phoenix wore throughout this movie and that it reminded me of the 90’s...BAD FASHION! The movie isn’t even set in that decade! Totally predictable. I would say however that despite the dire storyline, the acting is still good. That’s all though, nothing else good to say!!!
