This is one of those eighties cartoons that shows up modern kids TV for the crap that it is. Not just for kids but anyone (especially if you grew up in the 80s and watched it first time round), this is excellent childrens programming that doesn't patronise. Seeing as 'Dungeons & Dragons Volume.1' has just come out, all we need now is a release of 'Mysterious Cities Of Gold'.

These old fashion cartoons are far more accepetable for my young 7 year old than anything on children's TV. Worzel Gummidge, Maid marion and her merry men and all the hana barbera cartoons we can get our hands on. Check out she ra and he man for the small people as some cool action as well.

Ulysses is a legend and could easily be my personal hero.

Moving on, most guys my age probably watched this and loved it. A guy I knew used to get terrible headaches watching it that got so bad he used to bang his head of the wall. I never had that problem though.

This is by far one of the best animated series I saw in the '80s. It wasn't scared to use pace or it's visual language over having to explain everything like modern 'cartoons'.

    A classic animated masterpiece.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHide

Episodes: Vengeance of the Gods, The Lost Planet, The Black Sphere, Guardian of the Cosmic Winds, The Eternal Punishment, The Flowers of Fear, Mutiny on Board, The Secret of the Sphynx and Cronus, Father of Time. It transpires that Yumi and Numinoor were not originally part of the Odyssey but were trapped by the disciples of the Cyclops along with Telemachus, the son of Ulysses, for their life energy, because without it they were blind. This is how Yumi joins Ulysses, Telemachus and Nono on board the Odyssey and how Numinoor joins the rest of Ulysses' companions in their death-like sleep. This is great fun to watch, either on your own or with your kids and it comes highly recommended for the same reasons. This compares favourably with other similar titles in that it doesn't insult your intelligence but strokes it and even plays with it.
