slow but full of soul
By arun from liverpool , 01 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Muzaffar Ali has given a classic in terms of theme, music, story and the period in which the story is skilfully depicted. You have glimpses of that century and the local flavour is brought out throughout. The songs are excellent - especially ' in aankho ki masti ' . Rekha exudes ethereal beauty, but she falters in dancing.
The end is poignant- Was this review helpful to you?

(16)A great classic
By Mortalprins from Croydon, Surrey , 08 May 2007This was a good film with a nice storyline. Although Rekha was excellent I can't wait to watch the delicious Aishwarya Rai in the modern remake. I can imagine that curvaceous vixen dancing and exciting all onlookers!- Was this review helpful to you?

By Freya Jaffar from Uxbridge, Middlesex , 20 Apr 2007great to see rekha in all those classic songs. fantastic music. good story - but a little hap hazardly put together. scenes did not run smoothly into one another - but i guess for a bollywood film that old its expected. however, worth watching if you have seen the new version with aishwarya.- Was this review helpful to you?

Mediocre
By JohnnyRoss (373 reviews) from Leeds , 18 Apr 2006Rekha is fabulous. The music is classic and the film is widely commendable. Perhaps the pace is too slow, and the film doesn't seem to have to 'ultimate' ingrident that will make this film timeless. Nonetheless, it is a good watch; a film full of soul and passion.- Was this review helpful to you?
