    Fun schlock

This prequel is actually a hell of a lot more fun than the first two movies, mainly because it tells a simple but effective story as efficiently as possible - think Romeo & Juliet meets Spartacus in a horror castle. The low budget does show through at times with some shoddy CGI but it's still enjoyable in a Hammer horror for the noughties way, helped by a cast of Brit thesps who pull off the lines with a straight face and bags of enthusiasm. It may not be a masterpiece but it does what it says on the tin cheerfully enough and doesn't outstay it's welcome (it's short and fast).
