Hilarious gem of a martial arts movie

Jet Li is a boy brought up as a dog, trained to kill by some cockney gangsters operating in a cockney accented Glasgow. Sounds ludicrous, it is but man is it enjoyable. Riffing from Aliens, Clockwork Orange, Werner Herzog, in parts with some minor director showboating, it's brilliantly entertaining. With Tony Jaa getting some rave reviews for Ong-Bak it's nice to see that Jet Li's efforts in this completely absurd film come through. Surefire tongue-in-cheek mixed with great action sequences this was a real surprise with some real laugh out loud moments. Martial arts and comedy fans, check this out.

    Magnificent cast

I love virtually all of Jet Li's films and think this one has to go down as one of his best recent hits. It's different to many of his films as it has way more of a storyline. The casting of Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins was brilliant, they play their roles superbly. Less martial arts more feeling certainly worked here.

Five years ago Ang Lee produced a thoughtful but self conscious and only half successful version starring Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly and Nick Nolte. Reviews were good and bad. Business was just okay. No one from Hulk 2003 survives in 2008, except for Stan Lee and original TV Hulkster Lou Ferrigno, both of whom are back in witty cameo roles. Ed Norton takes over as...
