It might have seemed a good idea at the time to team country music stars Roy Clark and Mel Tillis in a Smokey and the Bandit-style chase movie, but it's a cryin' shame nobody bothered to find out if they could act. They can't, and, despite being surrounded by such notables as big Burl Ives, Glen (Wichita Lineman) Campbell, and even the doyen of this type of entertainment, Burt Reynolds himself, this unintentional farce is a total non-starter, even for fans of the good ole boys themselves. Never shown theatrically in the UK, and barely released elsewhere, either.
Raucous and depressingly unamusing comedy, dependent on heavy-handed slapstick; its two country-singing stars fail to transfer their hit-making abilities to the screen.
Long and boring.............found myself wishing it would end.
