Everybody's heard of them, yet they have no traceable source. They're Urban Legends, contemporary tall-tales that emerge from the underground and take on colourful lives of their own.
When a series of strange deaths occur on the campus of Pendleton College, student Natalie (Alicia Witt) begins to suspect that there is a bizarre link, someone is making urban legends a sinister reality. But when Natalie gets too close to discovering the killer's demented desire to re-create the ultimate urban legend, she realises that she could be the next victim...

This is one of the weaker examples of the late 1990s resurgence in stalk 'n' slash movies. After a particularly gruesome opening, it becomes apparent that the attractive teenagers at a remote university campus are being dispatched in the form of — you've guessed it — urban legends. The series of gimmicky murders are the film's sole stab at innovation (anyone heard of Scream?), although some of the later legends seem made up for the purposes of the plot. There's a pointed cameo from Robert Freddy Krueger Englund, but otherwise the pedestrian direction, bland cast and ludicrous final unmasking don't add up to much.
A horror movie that begins with a clever concept, though otherwise it offers the usual mix of multiple murders and shocks.
If you want to be scared to death don't watch this film but if you want a great film with a variation on the slash 'em up genre then get this one. I did... more
