First part of the V Series. Aliens with nice faces and reptilian habits descend over the earth bringing a new and menacing world order with them in this landmark television miniseries. Sixty-five million viewers reportedly viewed the original broadcast. Disguised to look just like humans, the aliens are actually lizard-like creatures out to strip the planet of its water supply and turn humans into food. Although most people are fooled by the visitors and allow the planet to be taken over by the fascist monsters, a group of resistance fighters try to defeat these creatures. Helping the underground movement is a journalist (Marc Singer) who figures out just what the aliens are up to. The story concludes in V: THE FINAL BATTLE.

This DVD although not a huge disappointment could have been better, of course it's not the whole series as I seem to recall that there were lots of episodes(about 20ish). I think that there's only about 3 hours of footage on this DVD.
The really irritating thing about this DVD though is that it doesn't contain the conclusion for the series. In fact I think that it only gets about half way through though I cant be sure.
Personally I think that by making this into a mini-series large pieces are left out of the plot and you are left wondering how the characters have suddenly come to that conclusion.
Anyway, if you can get hold of the conclusion DVD that is out this may be worth a rent but I'm left feeling a bit let down as I think they really should have made this a 2 disc set with the other half of the series on it. Another example of fans being milked for money(can anyone say lord of the rings?)
OK, so the rumours are that Kenneth Johnson is working hard to get the sequel to V the miniseries, into production and in front of the cameras. On his website he tells us that hopefully there will be an announcement after the writers strike. The sequel called the 2nd Generation (the book will be published in February), will pick up the epic story 20 years after the original arrival of the alien Visitors and will apparently completely override V the complete series. I strongly recommend that you watch the mini series before even contemplating buying the book or, hopefully in the not too distant future, watch the sequel to the mini series. It has a very strong plot, and yes, the special effects do look cheap and dated but it is the story line where its strength lies and it is so well written you will not mind the poor effects (apart from the laser beams which still rocks! At the time of production each laser shot allegedly cost $10.000, no CGI for you). It is impossible not to be fascinated by the aliens and their evil intentions and I was captivated from episode one. Its just not possible not to like this and I rate this as one of the best TV-series ever created.
