Varda autobiography
By annefnt (3 reviews) from London, , 04 Apr 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
Plages d'Agnes is an imaginative and poetic trip through Varda's fascinating life, from the beaches of her early life in Belgium to those she fabricated at a crossroads in the street she lives in in Paris. It is at once a summary of her other films and her involvement with all the interesting people she knew, all presented in her warm personal artistic style. It is unmissable for anyone who likes her work or French film generally and I am very grateful to her that she made it!- Was this review helpful to you?

(8)Little old lady, sand and people
By Zamy (552 reviews) from London , 16 Mar 2012In this film 80-year-old Agnes Varda reprises her life as a director in film. For her the magic of film lies in the images of people that can strike deep into the imagination. Here she serves up a delicious fare of images, including importing a beach onto the Paris street outside her home/studio. It would be a hard heart that was not charmed by this summation of this delightful womans life and work.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beaches of Agnes
By LENSER (26 reviews) from WEYBRIDGE , 27 Apr 2010Only the French could make this kind of film. The amazing Madam Varda has compiled a beautiful, delightful film, of her memories. Original , funny and a joy to watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

Films for lovers of Film
By Picaro (68 reviews) from Bangor , 08 Apr 2010While 'L'une chante, l'autre pas' is a dated feminist tract, which didn't entertain me (the women are not too practical or provident, but they have a good bit of fun), 'Vagabond' & 'Jacquot de Nantes' are infectious with their sympathy for those who do not 'fit into' society (Vagabond), and the deep love for a longtime companion film-maker (Jacquot--Jacques Demy).
A revealing & poignant display of the way different people react to the hitching, squatting, begging, unappealing girl-vagabond.
Varda's inventive cinematic technique, and carefully chosen musical accompaniment, well expounded in her 'Extras', will fascinate serious connoisseurs. Brilliantly human and sad.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beaches of Agnes review
By YeovilEd (34 reviews) from London , 14 Mar 2010One of those films that Time Out critics gush over but left me completely cold. Maybe it's purely for fans of Agnes Varda who are intrigued to find out more. Not one for the casual viewer, sorry.- Was this review helpful to you?
