[Highly rated reviewer]This dvd is superb. Valkyrie is a historical thriller film starring Tom Cruise. The film is based on the 20th July plot of German army officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Tom Cruise portrays the leader of the plot, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg.
The film also stars: Kenneth Branagh as Major General Henning von Tresckow, Christian Berkel as Colonel Albrecht Mertz von Quirnheim, Bill Nighy as General Friedrich Olbricht,
David Schofield as Field Marshal Erwin von Witzleben, Terrence Stamp as Colonel General Ludwig Beck, Kevin McNally as Carl Goerdeler, Carice van Houten as von Stauffenberg's wife, Nina Schenk Gräfin von Stauffenberg, David Bamber as Adolf Hitler,
Eddie Izzard as Erich Fellgiebel, Tom Wilkinson as Friedrich Fromm, Thomas Kretschmann as Otto Ernst Remer, Gerhard Haase-Hindenberg as Hermann Göring, Anton Algrang as Albert Speer and Matthias Freihof as Heinrich Himmler.
During World War II, German Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) is severely wounded in Africa and returns home to Nazi Germany.
Stauffenberg helps conceive Operation Valkyrie, a plan approved by Adolf Hitler which, in order to manage turmoil within Germany, would implement a shadow government in the event of the Nazi Führer's death.
The Colonel eventually joins the German Resistance and becomes part of the July 20 plot, a conspiracy to assassinate Hitler and execute Valkyrie in order to take control of the country and make peace with the Allies.
Stauffenberg finds himself taking on not only the responsibility of leading the coup, but also the task to assassinate Hitler himself.
Well worth watching.

Desperate Measures!By laneyb (313 reviews) from Rochester, Kent , 06 Oct 2013Great film, Loved Tom Cruise in his role, I thought he and all the cast in fact, gave a grand performance. The desperation the men must have felt back then to get the deed done must have been so hard! God bless each and every one of them.
a cracking WW2 filmBy davidginsberg (113 reviews) from London , 29 Jul 2013Finally got around to watching Valkyrie last night which I have to say was pretty good. Very interesting story and on the whole very well told. It also avoided going on for too long which can be a real problem with some of the modern WW2 films (Saving Private Ryan, Downfall etc..) It did manage to keep you engaged and interested despite knowing the plot didnt succeed. Tom Cruise is perfectly fine as Von Stauffenberg and is well assisted by a largely british supporting cast. If you like a good WW2 film this is a good watch!
Good filmBy a customer , 30 Jun 2013Good film keep you on your toes for a bit. Good actors but somehow that wow factor is missing, shame do!!
Another Tom CruiseBy a customer , 26 Jun 2013Come on Eddie Izzard as a high ranking Nazis officer oh please. Would have been better with German actors playing the Nazis. However it is a comedy i guess ?
A great WWII film.By The KnightWatcher (629 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 12 Mar 2013Story of last failed attempt to assassinate Hitler. Depicts the Nazis pretty convincingly. There are not many great WWII films where the acting is good and the characters are developed and this one is about as good as they get. I do not usually like Tom Cruise but he is good in this , as is Bill Nighy. Thoroughly recommended.
