    Excellent in every respect

Its far better than the Glenn Close/Uma Thurman /MichellePfieffer one. Can't say why this version was not as popular as the other one. It is all there: black humour, cracking performances, great plot and script, but there is a great humanity in all character absent from the top heavy cartoon-y (and frankly hammy) John Malkchovich version.

If you haven't seen the other, or even if you have, rent this, and give it your full attention. It has alot to say on all sorts of things but draws no conclusions for you.

    Valmont

Dangerous Liaisons has long been a firm favourite so I was keen to compare it to Valmont especially with Colin Firth in the lead - however whilst Valmomnt was lighter and less dramatic it was fun and enjoyable. However, the illicit tension was missing and the story line was dramatically different so there's no comparison really!
