Fran (Marianne Morris) and Miriam (Anulka) are making love when a man enters their room and shoots them dead. The women become vampyres, preying on motorists travelling on a nearby road.
John (Brian Deacon) and Harriet (Sally Faulkner) are on a camping holiday and decide to stay, unknowingly, near the vampyres' house. Harriet becomes increaingly obsessed by the comings and goings at the house.
Meanwhile, Fran has fallen for Ted (Muray Brown), an intended victim. She and Miriam feed from him, but Fran cannot bring herself to finally kill him. Other victims, Rupert (Karl Lanchbury) and a playboy (Michael Byrne) are not so fortunate. The women welter in gore as the men are slaughtered.
This enigmatic British horror film from 1974 is an absolute genre classic and is presented here in its most complete form. Other versions have been butchered by the British censors. No doubt, the potent mix of sex and blood was too much for the poor dears' sensibilities.
There's plenty of blood and naked flesh on display and the murder scenes are cold and brutal. What more could you want from a horror/exploitation classic. For fans of British horror from the 1970s, this is a real treat. 'Vampyres' is rarely broadcast on television, so take the opportunity to see it now.
