    Monster flick Van Helsing took an estimated $54.2 million (£30.3 million) in its first weekend in North America. The $160 million movie, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale, opened on Friday.     The premiere of the highly anticipated blockbuster Van Helsing is being held at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Monday.     Beckinsale wins libel damages

    Kate Beckinsale has been awarded £20,000 in libel damages after a newspaper reported she missed out on her dream role as Barbarella. The Van Helsing star filed a lawsuit after the Daily Express wrongly alleged she was "heartbroken" that she was passed over for the title role in a remake of the 1968 movie.
