In this teen drama, Dawson's Creek alumnus James Van Der Beek plays the high-school football player who challenges the authority of his control-freak coach (Jon Voight, giving another hilariously over-the-top performance) when he becomes the team's star quarterback. This is basically a 1990s throwback to 1980s sports movies such as Youngblood and All the Right Moves, with the usual mix of sports action, drinking and girls (the guys discover one of their teachers is a stripper), and the odd moral tale thrown in. It's predictable stuff and British viewers may find the American football sequences impenetrable, but fans of Van Der Beek will be in heaven.
Tiresome teenage drama of small-town worship of athletes that looks merely quaint to audiences not involved in such rituals.
Personally i liked this film, but I'm a huge American football fan and i think you need at least a small interest in the sport to enjoy this film. wicked performance from Jon Voight, plays the self centered coach brilliantly.
The film shows small town views on local sport, and how much pressure this puts on the barely 18 year olds to win championships, along with the pressure from their coach.
James Van Der Beek plays his role as step in-to-starting quaterback surprisingly well.
It all ends a bit cheesy, but its american! C'mon, what did you expect?!
Anyway, a definate must see for a football fan ****
This film managed to hold the attention all the way through and was entertaining enough. Some sections dragged a little and of course the american football movie has a predicable outcome.I think it was better than I expected though and it deserves its three stars.
Goodfellas star Ray Liotta has signed up to play Seth Rogen's nemesis in upcoming comedy Observe And Report, according to showbiz sources in Tinseltown. The Hollywood Reporter says Liotta - who shot to fame playing New York hood Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's 1990 mob masterpiece - will be on the side of law and order this time, playing a police detective who squares off with Rogen's jumped-up security guard. The pair will do battle after Rogen, a deluded, self-important mall guard, starts a... Read more
