In this decent psychological western, Burt Lancaster plays a rancher's adopted son who always supports or takes the rap for his brother, a heel played by snivelling, sneering Robert Walker. A woman comes between them — she even gets pregnant — and we're into Eugene O'Neill territory or a Wild West spin on Cain and Abel. It's nicely shot in the Rocky Mountains and western buffs will quickly note that you get two Wyatt Earps for your money here: Lancaster played him in the classic Gunfight at the OK Corral while further down the cast list is Hugh O'Brian, who played Earp in a long-running TV series.
Well-made character Western, a little short on action.
Burt Lancaster was very good in this western, strong storyline.
