La Mamba

If you are going to kidnap a child, always make sure that said child doesn?t pick up a deadly black mamba by mistake from the local pet shop beforehand and certainly make sure it doesn?t escape. Unfortunately such advice seems not to have been heeded by Jacques Muller?s (Kinski) gang and what initially appears to be an easy inside job, soon turns into a hellish nightmare.
With characters like Klaus Kinksi, Oliver Reed and Sterling Hayden on board, you know that even if the plot is lacking there will be some semblance of entertainment. And whilst this certainly isn?t the greatest film ever made, the performances are well judged and it moves along at a decent enough pace. The film also benefits from the use of actual mambas and whilst they obviously weren?t used in the attacks, they do help to make events more realistic. The short running time reduces the obvious plot limitations of having one snake on the loose and whilst the bursts of action are well executed, the actual ending is perhaps a little too over the top.
Overall, this is a decent low-budget title and looks great thanks to the people at Blue Underground. An enjoyable way to pass a Sunday afternoon. 3 out of 5.- Was this review helpful to you?

Silly-but-fun B movie suspense
By Stefro (2 reviews) , 17 Nov 2012Surprisingly decent British suspenser featuring an excellent cast - Sterling Hayden, Klaus Kinski, Oliver Reed, Nicol Williamson - and a genuine Black Mamba(controlled by expert snake expert David Ball) prowling around the posh British house instead of a cheap model. Critically-panned upon its initial release, 'Venom' may be just a slightly more expensive B-movie, but it still has plenty of bite.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good story
