superb.........

this dvd series is superb. Veronica Mars is the only daughter of her poor Private Investigator father Keith Mars.
The series is set in the wealthy, seaside community of Neptune, where tension between the `haves' and the `have-nots' is rife.
the PCH motorcycle gang rules the highway, and the rich 09-ers, make the law bend to their will.
Veronica having had a bad sophomore year, is out cast by her friends, and the rest of the Neptune community at large, when she sides with her father over them.
Keith Mars is the former Sheriff of Neptune, but was voted out, after he went after the wrong man, for the murder of Lilly Kane, who was Veronica's best friend, and sister to her ex-boyfriend Duncan Kane. This first season deals with Veronicas investigation, of who murdered her best friend... a mystery that sees all the series regulars involved. Everyone is a suspect.
As Veronica tries to prove her ex-sheriff father's hunch, that the convicted killer is not actually the murderer, she also tackles mysteries for students at her school.
Veronica played by kristen bell, is very likeable, despite her obvious flaws. the sympathy she induces from the viewer is immense, especially when her troubled past is revealed in the Pilot episode.
The supporting characters are great, especially Jason Dohring who plays Logan Echolls - who is the `Obligatory psychotic...' as Veronica calls him; the depth of Logan's character is slowly revealed, as the season progresses, and his chemistry and unfriendly banter, with Veronica is always a scene stealer.
The relationship between Veronica and her father, is really at the heart of the show. the bond between the two of them, is only strengthened as time moves forward.
Among the other characters Veronica interacts with, is her best friend called Wallace - he is very likeable, since he`s one of the only friends, that Veronica actually has.
this series has a very film noir feel to it. The noirish lighting and subject matter, as well as the insightful voiceovers Veronica recites, in each episode, adds to the corrupt tone and inevitability, of the events that lead to the end of the season.
`A Trip to the Dentist' which deals with date rape, is one of the best ever episodes, and the season finale called `Leave it to Beaver' finally reveals the whodunit.
some really good episodes are: `Weapons of Class Destruction', `Pilot', `Silence of the Lamb', `Mars V.S Mars', `A Trip to the Dentist', `M.A.D' and `Leave it to Beaver'.
this series is well worth renting out.- Was this review helpful to you?

(11)great detective show
By pdf1972 (1 review) , 06 Apr 2013Excellent series aimed at teens but don't let that spoil your enjoyment. Kristen is great as Veronica and all the other cast just add to the brilliance of the show. Sadly only three series were made however a movie is now in the works thanks to a hugely successful kick starter project so low is a great time to watch if you have yet to see the show.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very, Very, VERY Good!
By Sector2814 (20 reviews) , 15 Mar 2013Take a pinch of Twin Peaks (quirky but believable characters), a pinch of Buffy (smart heroine, snappy dialogue), one level teaspoon of Film Noir (twisted dark, whodunnit storylines) and simmer in the Californian sunshine.
Result - One of the best TV series ever broadcast. Let's put it this way - creative giant Joss Whedon (Buffy, Firefly, The Avengers) liked it so much he asked if he could please have a featured cameo...

If you haven't seen it yet, rent it!
By ChloeCheese (1 review) from Nottingham , 09 Nov 2009In my opinion the best american teen show I've seen in a long time.
The show revolves around the title character, Veronica Mars, a teenage high school student who works part time as a private investigator with her dad. The series starts about a year after the murder of Veronica's best friend Lily Kane. Her father, the sheriff, blamed Lilly's parents, believing they were involved in a cover up. However the Kanes were well respected and his accusation leads to him being fired and to Veronica being hated by the people who used to be her friends particularly Logan Echolls, Lilly's ex boyfriend.
Veronica spends the series working to solve the mystery of who killed her best friend, whilst helping out classmates with her PI skills.
There are a lot of things about this show that set it apart from the majority of other American teen shows. One is the fact that the whole show is carried by a female lead who is the complete opposite of the typical airhead who usually inhabits American shows set in high schools. Veronica is the sort of character you can't help but love because although she is pretty, witty and of course smart, she is also insecure without being irritating, cynical and has some obvious trust issues. The same can be said for a lot of the other characters in the show, even ones who start off seeming one dimensional. Logan Echolls starts the series as the 'psychotic jackass' and somehow finds his way into your affections with the witty banter between him and Veronica keeping you entertained. Basically, the show has a lot of character development, which is helped along by the fact that the characters are well thought out in the first place.
The dialogue is always fresh, often sarcastic, witty and full of pop culture references. The story is complex, with clues and red herrings throughout the series, building up to the final reveal of Lilly's killer. The show feels like a mix between a good noir detective novel and the OC, but without that annoying Marisa.
But, despite all it's sarcasm and cynical characters the show still has a heart and has probably the best father daughter relationship on tv.
What I'm basically trying to say is, if you're looking for a new tv programme to enjoy, this one is a brilliant choice.- Was this review helpful to you?

Amazing
By NikkiNo (2 reviews) from Edinburgh , 08 Feb 2009I've watched the first season of Veronica Mars several times, it's that good. It's one of the most underrated TV shows out there (which, sadly, led to its cancellation). This is some of the best TV you will ever see. It is not just for teenagers! When I was laid up after getting my wisdom teeth out I decided to watch all of these with my mom and she got so hooked that she ran out the next day and bought the second season. It is really an incredible show! I think everyone will love it!- Was this review helpful to you?
