A gentle POW escape
By a customer from London, England , 21 Oct 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a gentle POW escape. Don't expect side splitting laughs but story holds togeather very well with less emphasis on the 'escape' and more on the relationships involved, in particular the conflicts between the behaviour and bearing of the over educated upper class professor and the lower-middle class soliders.- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Very likable comedy
By RJNeb2 (924 reviews) from London , 30 Aug 2012Quite a spritely comedy that gives James Robertson Justice an absolutely plum role as a disdainful scientist who finds himself in a POW camp during WWII and is none too pleased about such a minor inconvenience. A flurry of stalwart British support players fill out the rest of the film but this is really Justices show.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very entertaining, great acting, funny.
By Maeve. A choosy viewer from London , 15 Mar 2007We like to give the old films a try and now and again we hit on a good one.
This gave us a good evening's entertainment. Very well made and acted, with a host of old stars. Some old films can be just as good as the new and all the more amusing when their antiquity seems to add to the interest rather than detract! James R. Justice makes such a strongly convincing, larger than life character.- Was this review helpful to you?
