  • A gentle POW escape

    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is a gentle POW escape. Don't expect side splitting laughs but story holds togeather very well with less emphasis on the 'escape' and more on the relationships involved, in particular the conflicts between the behaviour and bearing of the over educated upper class professor and the lower-middle class soliders.

  • Very likable comedy

Quite a spritely comedy that gives James Robertson Justice an absolutely plum role as a disdainful scientist who finds himself in a POW camp during WWII and is none too pleased about such a minor inconvenience. A flurry of stalwart British support players fill out the rest of the film but this is really Justice’s show.

We like to give the old films a try and now and again we hit on a good one.

This gave us a good evening's entertainment. Very well made and acted, with a host of old stars. Some old films can be just as good as the new and all the more amusing when their antiquity seems to add to the interest rather than detract! James R. Justice makes such a strongly convincing, larger than life character.

For James Robertson Justice fans, this film is a fantastic display of the star on ueber-nonchalant form.

Leslie Phillips and John Le Mesurier to boot.

    Classic.

I had'nt seen this film for many years, very enjoyable, a fine British cast and a original and funny story line. James Robertson Justice is superb in this film - well worth watching.
