After a spate of rather lack lustre films from Woody Allen’s comes this little gem. Great dialogue, with many laugh out loud lines delivered buy some stand-out performances from Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and our own Rebecca Hall, masterful direction of Mr Allen. I loved it and it was wonderful surprise.

Barcelona provides an enchanting backdrop to a story of New Yorkers exploring the meaning of love, sex, and relationships. Charming and personal style by Woody Allen presenting empathetic characters transplanted from their New York lifestyle to a Barcelona summer. Penelope Cruz steals the show! Her performance is pure Spanish passion.

This is a rather enjoyable film, kind of quirky. Not the same old predictable plot you would usually see. The only bad thing i could say is that the acting isn't the best in the world although i have seen worse. In spite of this, brilliant performance was given by Penelope Cruz. Definitely worth a watch, especially if you're bored as i was.

  • My first Woody Allen film - What a train wreck

    Rated - 0.5 stars

Believe it or not I had never seen a Woody Allen film before this, always believing him to be a strange looking fellow, a bit odd and wondering how he could make good films. But I thought I'd give this a go. Sadly for Woody this seemed to live up to my expectations of him. The scripting was dire, the story was flat and Allen must be one of the most ridiculous men on the planet to decide that the pointless, annoying voiceover was anything but a hideous idea. Allen treats the audience like babies by making the guy with the annoying voice tell us what is happening. There are some great cast members in here, with only Penelope Cruz able to do anything of interest. If I was in this film I'd be ashamed of it.

  • Woody's worst ever?

I have loved Woody Allen's films since I saw Annie Hall with my first girlfriend when I was an impressionable teenager. So, it takes a lot to make me really hate one of his films, but this pushed me over the edge. It would have been just about bearable (but no more) without the voice over, but the narrator telling you what was already bleeding obvious at every step makes this one to *really* avoid.
