It concerns two people, (one in deep space and the other on Earth), who can only communicate by text messages.

The emotions felt by both people are conveyed effortlessly and with deep reverence.

Voices of a distant star is a short film a little under 30 minutes. The story revolves around 2 lovers Mikako and Noboru separated by war Mikako is excepted as a mecha pilot while Noboro is left on earth they continue a relationship via txt messaging but as Mikako travels further into space the messages take longer to reach Noboru. The Animation on this feature is excellent even more so when you realize that this anime was written directed and animated by one man Makoto Shinkai only the music and voice acting were not done by Shinkai but both are still excellent. The DVD comes with a lot of additional features including three versions of the award winning short called She and Her Cat as well as the Directors Cut of Voices with alternate vocals. In closing anyone interested in animation should watch this film a modern classic which will take its place along side AKIRA and Ghost in the shell
