This is a very strange film.It switches between an attractive young woman in New York who admires Wallace Simpson because they have the same Christian name and the life of Wallace Simpson.Amost more attention is paid to the modern day Wallace who is being ill-treated by her rich, doctor husband. It tries to show that Wallace Simpson suffered from a cruel first husband and was only trying to be friendly with Edward but Edward became obsessed with her and she was unable to escape after he renounced the throne for her.The phography sweeps along with loud music to emphasise the emotional drama. There is good acting by Andrea Riseborough and Abbie Cornish and there is plenty of glamorous fashion on display. The film is rather a muddle and a not very convincing attempt to rescue Wallace Simpson's reputation. However,it is entertaining and better than Madonna's other attempts at being a director.Worth seeing but not brilliant

I think it is very poorly directed madonna film. I dont know what on earth she had in mind, but this film really is poor I am not interested in the other story inbetween this Wallice and Mrs Simpson one.

This is what happens when you let a young celebrity grow up without being challenged.... So in order to bring some order back to the world...here's a word that should have featured heavily prior to this film getting a green light... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO No Madonna - this is not how you make a movie... No Madonna - you are not a genius... No Madonna - you are not a great director... No Madonna - Please don't give up the day job... No No NO NO no NO No So... for the sake of my eyes please don't make another atrocity... How anyone could ruin this fascinating story is beyond me... The script, the casting, the pace, the story, the camera work are shoddier than a Christmas theme park in the New forest... So dear universe if you ever come across a Madonna bearing script... please do us all a favour and TELL HER NO!

I have always been fascinated too by the story of W./E. but it has been shared by much better films than this one and the parallel story was contrived and unrealistic. Whilst domestic violence is a very real problem for women (and some men) it was poorly portrayed with elements of pretence and some very bad acting (Sleeping with the Enemy was so much better). Yes there is some wonderful music, but slightly bizarrely sequenced.

Very well executed loved the story from Wallis Simpson's side. What a sad story but at the same time uplifting in a strange way. The music was fantastic.

I was happy to give this film a go, even after all the bad reviews I'd read however I really wish I hadn't wasted my time. While the subject matter is interesting to me I found the film to be a sad self-indulgent piece of trash with some nice sets and costumes to keep everyone happy. The women are mopey and difficult to have any empathy for, complaining about how terrible their lives are while enjoying relatively privileged lives. It really tested my endurance, so much so I completely lost interest and stopped watching.
