Waking the Dead is a superb series, with an equally brilliant cast, led by Trevor Eve as Detective Superintendant Peter Boyd.
He runs the Met's cold case unit, set up to re-investigate old murders from years past. This involves re-interviewing witnesses, and going over the forensic evidence to find the truth.
Trevor Eve puts in a brilliant performance as Boyd, who will stop at nothing to solve the case, no matter what the team are up against.
Waking the Dead has some fantastic characters, and a lot of the enjoyment gained from the show, is watching as their relationships grow.
The relationship between Boyd and Grace the psychologist, who is played by Sue Johnston is particularly interesting - as is the character of forensic scientist Frankie Wharton who is played by Holly Aird.
The series is darker, and much more unconventional than the average detective drama, such as Morse and A Touch of Frost.
Waking the Dead series 1 consists of the pilot episode, and 4 other episodes.
The pilot deals with the kidnapping and murder of a little girl years earlier; when the police look into it again, the kidnapper snatches another girl.
the other episodes blend together quite nicely both the present and the past; not only is there evidence, from a past murder to sort through, with modern day investigation and forensic techniques, but there is usually a present-day component as well, as this reopening of the case, stirs the perpetrator to some new criminal act.
this dvd series really is, worth renting out.
