    Really not that bad

Rented this thinking I'd only watch the first half hour or so but I was pleasantly suprised. It's actually not a bad film, in fact very watchable and the Rock is pretty good in this kind of role (I'm not a 'rock' fan by the way). Give it a try you might be suprised, not a cultural milestone but an easy watch with enough action to keep everyone happy.

Everything an action movie should be!

It's everything I look for in an action film. It's Rambo 21st century style.

One man, conquers all. It's an old formula, and if you're looking for a meaningful gritty film, this ain't for you.

If however you're like me and want a kick ass action film where the good guy wins, without the need to think too hard, then this is for you.

So just sit back & enjoy.

He will, He will, Rock You!!!

I'm not a fan wrestlers truned actors. I'm not a fan of anyone calling themselves after a hard piece of stone. The Rock, as far as I'm concerned, is a Jerry Bruckhiemer film with Sean Connery in it. The wrestler turned actor, known as The Rock, should get a real name... he's earned it.

I was surprised by this film. I was expecting mindless brutal violence and explosions every 15 minutes. But what I got was actually a good story, based on fact, with a not an invincible hero, but a realistic ex-army special forces guy trying to get back into civvies in a corrupt hometown in mid-America. Yeah, there's action, and even explosions, but the violence is realistic, and there's no Rambo/Tom & Jerry absurd feats of macho or mindless destruction.

Instead, you will be treated to a small scale, enjoyable, realistic and sometimes surprising little action film with a lead man who can actually act. I only hope he can build upon this little gem, and please... change his name!

    Thumbs firmly up!

    Good, old-fashioned fist-fighting action!

Basically, no fly-by-wire 50 yard kicks. Just good, old-fashioned fist-fighting action!

Annoying, self-important wrestler "The Rock" stars in this passable action beat-em-up with a phony sentimental plot about a bloke saving his child-hood town from the "big bad drugs barron".

It's just enough of an excuse to have him punch a bunch of people in the face like they used to in the '70s.

For variety, he also uses a plank of wood. (Perhaps returning to his wrestling roots? -No sign of a fold-up aluminium chair though.)

Anyway, once I stopped cringing about the eye-wateringly overly-patriotic undertones, and sank a few beers back, the film became very watchable. But that's about it.

If you want a fist-fight-fix for your night-at-the-flicks, this rib-bruising newcomer will do nicely.

In case I haven't made it absolutely crystal clear yet: The story is very lame.

    great film but short

i loved this film but abit shortA great film, based upon a true story. The Rock plays a man who comes home to his once quiet home town to find that its not the sleepy little place he left it and those he thought he could trust have turned against him and are part of making the town bad, going out on his own he is beaten back then takes a final stand to make the town right.

    Well I enjoyed it!

This film is great and has it all, the Rock makes this film for sure. I love a good action film which is believabe and this is certainly it. The 2nd casino fight scene kicks ass and I had to watch it over and over again. Brilliant film, didn't care it was on for 80 minutes makes me more likely to watch it again. Anyway I hate films that drag on just to make the time up. 5 stars all the way keep them coming Rock.

    Hard Hitting, No Nonsense.... Nonsense

The term 'No Brainer' really fits well with this movie. This is a plain and simple action film with 'The Rock' as the working mans hero.

I was suprised and somewhat relieved that this film marks a point where the rock can pull off a Leading Role. Gone are the days of 'The Scorpian King' which im sure we all want to forget.

This films main fault is the script. There is little to no character back story and at times it is impossible to believe (Court Room Scene).

Watch this film with little expectations and you won't be disapointed. This really is a turn around movie and makes The Rock into a credible Actor.

    Passes the time

Like manu other of the reviews here, the film started off well, but it did seem to loose the plot a bit half way through, and ended very sudenly making it a very short film. Would I recomend it? Well it passed the time, watchable.

    Turd

What a load of turd, give me an episode of the A-Team any day! This movie is a mix of poor acting and awful scripting. If your mind requires more than a mindless troll with a plank as a weapon then dont watch this movie!

    Rock - tastic

Wow! This movie was excellent; the acting, the storyline everything the Rock did an awesome job and this is definitely a movie worth seeing twice.

The good guy kicks ass for once and the bad guys get taken completely out of the picture. Finally a movie stands for good morals and has a decent ending. It kicks ass!

Well done Rock, It proves the Critics wrong.

The Rock shows much talent and Charisma in this film and I recommend any fan of The Rock to check out this movie. Not only do you get to see the Rock, but also his talent as a Movie Star.

Walking back to happiness - I wish

Don't expect much mental stimulation from this flick - which is just about watchable - starts of like Rocky ' first blood' - guy (in this case the Rock)returns home after army service - and doesn't like the fact that the town has changed - so what does he do, become sheriff and kick some A** along the way - oh, I fall in love with a pole dancer - Johhny knoxville of jackass fame tries his best to raise the bar - but it's all pretty dum stuff.

    V Poor

One man and his bat takes on the town that he once grew up in, dealing justice out to the bad guys with his wonder bat and his truck which he has customised to cater for his mighty bat. Enjoy!!!
